The Best Vegan Hot Chocolate

The Best Vegan Hot Chocolate

It's that time of year again, the snow is falling and the days are shorter. To me, there's nothing more comforting this time of year than curling up inside with a warm blanket, a hot chocolate in hand, and watching my favorite show while the snow falls.

Hot chocolate is always a popular go-to for many people during the winter season, and for good reason! The smooth chocolate, balanced out with the creamy milk is a wonderful combo that warms you instantly.

Although, vegan hot chocolate, can be difficult to find. Most store-bought powders and coffee shop syrups contain milk ingredients, but don't let that dissuade you. This is an easy recipe that takes only minutes to make, and utilizes just 5 ingredients! It's rich, not too sweet, and tastes like a dream.

*If you're someone who doesn't to make things from scratch, not to worry! This hot chocolate mix will be sold in-store at our Kelowna location this season.

The Best Vegan Hot Chocolate

This recipe makes x4 hot chocolates (feel free to halve the recipe to make x2)

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of dairy free milk (my favorite to use is soy)

  • 1/4 cup of cocoa powder

  • 1/4 cup of organic cane sugar

  • 1/4 cup of chopped vegan chocolate (you can also use vegan chocolate chips)

  • Generous pinch of salt (trust me!)

  • Optional - peppermint extract, vegan marshmallows, vegan whipped cream

Directions:

In a medium size pot add in the milk, cocoa powder, cane sugar, and salt. Make sure to stir well to remove all the cocoa powder 'bubbles'. My suggestions would be to use a whisk! Stir on medium to low heat until you can see steam coming off the top, you don't want to boil it. Once done, turn off your stove and whisk in your chocolate until it is completely melted and smooth.

Now, it's ready to drink! Pour into 4 cups (or two large ones ;), and enjoy!
